Stainless steel plate types are commonly known in the market as 304, 304L, 316, 316L, and 430 grades. 304 grade stainless steel plate is the most basic and widely used grade and also offers excellent formability. 304L grade stainless steel plate is the low-carbon version of 304 grade steel and does not require annealing after welding. 316 grade stainless steel plate provides very high resistance in environments exposed to severe corrosion; therefore, marine products are typically manufactured from this grade. 316L grade stainless steel plate has the same properties as 316, with additional resistance to stress corrosion cracking and improved overall strength. Finally, 430 grade stainless steel plate belongs to the ferritic group and is one of the most commonly used grades among ferritic stainless steels.
