Basic Ferritic Steels
X3CrTi17 – 1.4510 / S43035 / SUS430LX / Z4CT17 / 08KH17T
X3CrTi17 – 1.4510 stainless steel is a stabilized ferritic stainless steel grade that offers enhanced corrosion resistance and improved weldability. Commonly known as 430LX, this material is a titanium (Ti)-stabilized version of the standard 430 (1.4016) stainless steel. Thanks to this stabilization, it delivers more reliable performance in welded structures and mildly corrosive environments.
The chemical composition typically includes approximately 16–18% chromium. Chromium forms a protective oxide layer on the surface, providing resistance against corrosion. The addition of titanium binds with carbon to prevent carbide formation, thereby reducing the risk of intergranular corrosion, especially after welding. This significantly improves the structural stability and extends the service life of the material.
One of the key advantages of X3CrTi17 stainless steel is its good formability combined with improved weldability. Although it has a ferritic structure, titanium stabilization results in a more controlled microstructure. This ensures greater process stability and ease of manufacturing, making it suitable for various production techniques.
In terms of mechanical properties, this steel offers moderate strength and sufficient ductility. Due to its ferritic nature, it is magnetic and has a lower thermal expansion coefficient compared to austenitic steels, which is beneficial in applications involving temperature fluctuations.
Its corrosion resistance is superior to standard ferritic grades, yet still lower than that of austenitic steels such as 304. Therefore, it is best suited for indoor applications or mildly corrosive outdoor environments.
Overall, X3CrTi17 – 1.4510 stainless steel provides a balanced combination of cost efficiency, improved technical performance, and good surface quality, making it a preferred material across various industrial sectors.
