Special Ferritic Steels
X6CrMo17-1 – 1.4113
X6CrMo17-1 – 1.4113 stainless steel is a ferritic stainless steel grade that offers a combination of enhanced corrosion resistance and balanced mechanical properties. Compared to conventional ferritic grades, it provides improved performance, making it a suitable choice for both industrial and decorative applications. The addition of molybdenum (Mo) significantly increases its resistance to corrosive environments.
The chemical composition typically includes approximately 16–18% chromium along with a controlled amount of molybdenum. Chromium forms a protective oxide layer on the surface, providing resistance to corrosion, while molybdenum enhances resistance to pitting corrosion, especially in chloride-containing environments. As a result, X6CrMo17-1 offers longer service life in humid conditions and mildly aggressive environments.
One of the key advantages of this grade is its good formability and improved surface finish. In sheet form, it can be easily cut, bent, and shaped, making it suitable for various manufacturing processes. Its surface can also be polished to achieve a high-quality decorative appearance, making it ideal for aesthetic applications.
Due to its ferritic structure, this steel is magnetic and has a lower thermal expansion coefficient compared to austenitic steels. This provides better dimensional stability under temperature fluctuations. Its weldability is better than standard ferritic steels, although appropriate welding techniques are recommended.
In terms of mechanical properties, X6CrMo17-1 provides moderate strength and sufficient ductility, making it suitable for light structural components and general engineering applications.
Overall, X6CrMo17-1 – 1.4113 stainless steel stands out as a cost-effective and reliable material, offering enhanced corrosion resistance, good surface quality, and versatile usability across multiple industries.
